For me, the trolls aren't villains. At least not these particular trolls, or rather, Greymung's trolls. They have their own agenda, yes, but they and the Wolfriders either ignored each other (pre-Bearclaw) or co-existed with minimal trading contact. There wasn't much affection between the two groups, but not the same open hostility like between humans and Wolfriders.

It's another thing later in the series with the go-backs and the battle in the frozen mountains.

What I found interesting (again) was the wolf-sending. It surprised me in the first issue that Nightrunner seemed to be able to send coherent words, not only emotions.
I was even more suprised to find that there wasn't more of elf/wolf sending going on, or at least it wasn't shown to us. It's such an awesome ability/way to communicate between them, I'd have loved to see more of it.

Makes sense to me. The wolf-blood is still strong in the wolfriders - so I guess it's only logical to say that the elf-blood is still strong in the wolves of the tribe, too.

On the other hand - the wolf-blood seems to enable Cutter to communicate with other, possibly not-elf-related wolves, too. (Thinking of the frozen mountains again, here.)

About that last point... I'm sure it helped a lot that Cutter lived around wolves and "just" from experience knows their body language, and what kind of behaviour from his side would cause what kind of reaction, etc.
You don't need wolfblood for that, or Dart couldn't have taught Sun Folk elves to get along with jack-wolves.

Being so used to it being a comic book/cartoon convention, I hadn't noticed elves only have 4 fingers, *facepalms*!
